In his review of the new Disney live-action Beauty and the Beast, New York Times film critic A.O. Scott drops this gem in describing the movie’s villain, Gaston:
“He goes from annoying to evil when he stirs up the anti-intellectualism and xenophobia of a populist mob to serve his own egomaniacal ends. The residents of the castle fight back because their humanity is at stake. It’s just a fairy tale.”
I see what you did there. Well played, sir. Well played, indeed.
